United Arab Shipping Company takes delivery of another 13,500 TEU containership
The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), which is headquartered in Kuwait with a corporate office in the UAE, took delivery of a new 13,500 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containership in February.
The new vessel, which was named ‘Al Ula’ earlier this week, takes its name from the ancient city located between Madinah and Tabuk in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The naming ceremony for the vessel was held inside the Kingdom at the Jeddah Islamic Port.
Mohamed AL Mazeedi, Vice President for the Middle East Region at UASC said at the ceremony: “The delivery and deployment of our new fleet of 13,500 TEU ships marks a new era for UASC. These ultra large container vessels allow us to offer enhanced shipping services to our Customers notably towards ensuring wider geographical coverage and faster transit times. AL ULA will join UASC’s AEC8 service covering the trade between Asia and North Europe with calls in Jeddah, in both directions.”
Al Ula is the fourth A13 vessel to be delivered to UASC. The company is expecting an additional five to be delivered within the next two months and once the deliveries take place, the UASC fleet will operate a fleet of 49 containerships.
