According to the latest edition of the Container Forecaster – published by Drewry, container shipping profitability is expected to improve in 2015. Moreover, Drewry forecasts that industry unit costs will continue to decline, thereby raising profitability.
Carriers are winning the battle between rates and costs … this could be the year that carriers start to turn the corner in terms of operational profitability.- Drewry’s Director of Container Research.
The shipping consultancy firm estimates that the industry will finish 2014 in the black. This is thanks mainly to the contributions of container shipping industry leaders, like Maersk Line and CMA CGM.
Looking forward to 2015, more and more carriers will begin to show signs of positive and meaningful improvement. Strategies like network planning, slow steaming and the introduction of mega-alliances, will all contribute to a more profitable global container shipping industry.
