Joint Tank Services (JTS) has announced that it will establish a new depot in the Sohar Freezone. The 20,000 m2 site will be dedicated to the cleaning, storage and repair of ISO tank containers. Company officials say this investment is in response to what is described as being the ‘phenomenal’ growth of tank container traffic moving through the port of Sohar.
As our new Liwa Plastics Project comes on stream at Sohar, we are going to see phenomenal growth in the petrochemical and downstream plastics industry here, with a consequent growth in the number and complexity of ISO tank containers being handled through the port. Having specialists like JTS on hand will help to create the kind of world-class cluster we are hoping for, putting Oman on the map as a major plastics producer.- Chief Executive, Sohar Freezone
Construction of the new JTS Tanker container depot facility is expected to begin during the second quarter of 2018. If the project moves on schedule, trial operations should commence by the end of the year.
